Our Services
Our dietitians specialise in various gastrointestinal conditions and symptoms. Read more about these conditions and find out how our dietitians can help you manage them.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
We tailor our approach to IBS to suit your unique mix of symptoms, past experiences, and food preferences. We’ll talk through all your options and help you find what works best for you.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Maintaining a balanced diet while managing the symptoms of IBD can be challenging. We help with effective symptom management and a well-planned, varied diet, reducing symptom severity.
Functional Dyspepsia
FD is commonly misdiagnosed, due to it being a disorder of gut-brain interaction. Stress, certain foods, and gut bacteria imbalances can trigger symptoms, and we help you unpack it.
Eosinophilic Gut Conditions
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a condition where certain foods trigger inflammation. Dietary management is a key treatment strategy, and we will help ensure the diet is tailored to your needs.
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth
Our approach is tailored to each person, based on how SIBO or IMO (Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth) was diagnosed, your symptoms, food sensitivities, and gut health history.
Reflux
Reflux can be tricky to manage- we work together to make personalised dietary adjustments for identifying and reducing trigger foods while maintaining a balanced, nutritious diet without unnecessary restrictions.
Diverticular Disease
Diet is one aspect of diverticular disease management you have control over, and it can make a big difference. We focus on practical advice that supports your gut health and matches your lifestyle.
Gastroparesis
Gastroparesis symptoms can vary over time and our dietitians work with clients to maintain nutrition despite symptom fluctuations. We help you to reduce unnecessary food restriction and optimise quality of life.
Dumping Syndrome
We work with you to adapt your diet to your symptoms for continued comfort and nourishment. Drawing on research and clinical experience, we offer clear, practical advice that cuts through conflicting dietary information.
Coeliac Disease
If you are living with coeliac disease, you’re not alone- and you’re not without options. Our experienced dietitians can help you personalise your gluten-free diet to ensure it’s not only safe but also enjoyable and nutritionally balanced.
Functional Constipation
Functional constipation is a type of chronic constipation that isn’t caused by any underlying medical condition or medication, and diet can be part of the cause and the management.
Non-Coeliac Wheat/Gluten Sensitivity
As dietitians who specialise in this field, we support you in differentiating between non-coeliac conditions and their different dietary requirements, then guide you through an effective plan that supports you.
Food Intolerances
Food intolerance occurs when the digestive system struggles to break down certain foods. Our focus is on creating a personalised, long-term plan, supporting symptom control and aligning with your health goals.
Paediatric Feeding and Gut Issues
Kerith’s PhD explored responsive feeding and she now specialises in gastrointestinal conditions, so is well positioned to manage complex child feeding issues that overlap with gut conditions.
DGBI
Together, we explore the complex connections between food, gut, brain, and pain responses to better understand your experience. Our goal is to help restore enjoyment and confidence in eating, even when fear has developed over time due to persistent symptoms.
Bowel Surgery Preparation and Recovery
We work with you to optimise your diet before and after surgery to improve surgical outcomes and support a smoother, faster recovery. We also have extensice experience in stomas’ and LARS management.
Medical Weight Loss
Our dietitians offer a highly personalised and compassionate approach to supporting your health and weight-related goals. We discuss options for lifestyle, surgical or medication-supported strategies to change weight status.
What if I want to improve gut health but don’t have a specific gut condition?
Diet is a key tool in the prevention of some gut conditions and our dietitians enjoy working with clients who are keen to optimise their gut health to promote broader health. Having a healthy gut, i.e. no burdensome gut symptoms and a diverse community of gut bacteria, is associated with better mental health, stronger immune function, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases. Our dietitians are experts in understanding how diet can be used to modify the gut bacteria and promote overall health and wellbeing and love to work with clients motivated by this.
We also recognise that gut symptoms can occur without a diagnosis of a specific condition and our dietitians are well placed to work with clients to identify food or lifestyle related triggers that may be causing gut symptoms and develop plans to manage these.
Another important area where dietary management of gut symptoms is essential is in sport and training. Our dietitians both enjoy participating in a range of sports and understand firsthand how gut symptoms can affect training and performance. Our dietitians can help athletes to manage gut symptoms by identifying and addressing food triggers that may contribute to issues like bloating, cramping, or diarrhoea during training or competition. Your dietitian will provide tailored nutrition strategies around training the gut to tolerate fuel during activities as well as food choices to optimise digestive comfort and performance. This personalised approach helps athletes maintain energy, hydration, and gut health under physical stress.
Pregnancy is another life stage where gastrointestinal symptoms can be a concern. Your Help Yourself dietitian can help manage gut symptoms during pregnancy, such as nausea, constipation, or reflux, by tailoring dietary strategies to support comfort and nutrient needs. Your dietitian will provide guidance on meal timing, hydration, and food choices that are gentle on the digestive system while meeting the increased demands of pregnancy. Dietitians also ensure key nutrients like folate, iron, and calcium are adequately consumed through diet or supplements. Personalised support can promote both maternal gut health and healthy fetal development.
Our dietitians have experience working with a wide range of population groups, including paediatrics, and are committed to providing inclusive, culturally sensitive care. They take pride in supporting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, understanding, and a person-centred approach.
